Your Cellstory® Questions, Answered
Everything Your Clients Are Asking About Cellstory®
From how the technology works to which skin concerns it addresses, how it stacks up against other treatments, and why the results last — here are the answers to every question we hear most.
How does Cellstory® actually work?
Cellstory® works through two simultaneous mechanisms — and understanding both is what helps you explain the treatment confidently to clients and justify why it produces the results it does.
Most treatments do one or the other. Cellstory® does both at the same time. The Microspear® stimulates the skin while the ingredient stack feeds it — creating a regenerative response that goes far deeper than surface-level treatments can reach.
What are Microspears® — and are they the same as spicules?
This is one of the most important distinctions to understand, because the terms are often used interchangeably — and they shouldn't be.
Spicule is the raw material. Microspear® is Cellstory's advanced, patented technology. They are not the same thing.
Microspears® are derived from hydrolysed freshwater sponge — the same biological origin as standard spicules — but that's where the similarity ends. Every Microspear® undergoes a 13-stage non-chemical purification process to achieve a level of purity, uniformity, and consistency that raw spicules simply cannot match. Then, critically, each individual Microspear® is encapsulated in Yellow Calming Complex — a proprietary coating of soothing botanicals that respects the skin barrier, minimises unnecessary irritation, and supports a more comfortable, controlled treatment experience.
Other brands may use spicules or describe their treatments as liquid needling — but Microspear® Technology is a patented technology exclusive to Cellstory® and its sister brand, Miracletox. When a clinic offers Cellstory®, they are not offering "another liquid needling treatment." They are offering a superior Microspear® regeneration system.
Why does Cellstory® use 50,000 Microspears® when other brands claim millions of spicules?
This is a question worth addressing directly — because on the surface, "millions" sounds more impressive than 50,000. In reality, with skin stimulation technology, more is not better. More is often worse.
When a formula floods the skin with millions of standard, unpurified spicules, it doesn't create better results — it creates an overloaded skin response. The risk of unnecessary inflammation increases. Heat, prolonged redness, barrier stress, and excessive peeling become far more likely. The skin isn't stimulated — it's overwhelmed.
Cellstory® takes a fundamentally different approach. 50,000 highly refined, purified Microspears® are precisely the right amount to create effective skin stimulation while maintaining control, comfort, and skin integrity. Because each Microspear® is individually encapsulated with Yellow Calming Complex, the treatment delivers targeted stimulation without triggering the inflammatory cascade that comes with raw, high-volume spicule systems.
This is also why Cellstory® can be safely used on a far wider range of skin types — including sensitive, reactive, inflammatory, problematic, and melasma-prone skin — where high-volume spicule treatments would cause too much stimulation to be appropriate.
What skin concerns does Cellstory® treat?
Cellstory® is a multi-concern treatment — and this is one of its most compelling selling points. Rather than targeting one issue per session, Cellstory® addresses multiple concerns simultaneously within a single advanced protocol. For clients who have been bouncing between different treatments for different concerns, this is a significant shift.
Cellstory® can also be safely used on active, inflamed acne — something most spicule treatments and traditional microneedling cannot offer. Because Microspear® Technology does not puncture the skin but instead triggers a controlled regenerative response, it does not aggravate active breakouts the way more aggressive treatments can.
Why is there only one protocol when other treatments offer multiple?
This question comes up often — and the answer gets to the heart of what makes Cellstory® genuinely different in its philosophy.
Most treatments approach skin concerns symptomatically — one protocol for acne, another for ageing, another for pigmentation. Cellstory® doesn't work that way. It works from a skin longevity perspective, targeting the underlying health and behaviour of the skin cells themselves rather than surface-level symptoms.
When you improve how skin cells function — their ability to produce collagen and elastin, respond to growth factors, retain moisture, manage inflammation — you improve everything. Texture, tone, pores, pigmentation, laxity, fine lines, and breakouts all share the same root: cellular function. Cellstory® addresses that root.
Is Cellstory® a seasonal treatment? Can it be used in summer?
Unlike IPL, more aggressive spicule-based treatments, and certain chemical peels — which require extra caution during summer or hotter months due to increased photosensitivity risk — Cellstory® is not restricted to any particular season.
Because Cellstory® works through Microspear® stimulation and advanced ingredient delivery rather than heat, light, or aggressive peeling, the risk profile is entirely different. It can be safely integrated into year-round treatment plans when correct consultation, protocol, and aftercare are followed. Clients should still use daily SPF and avoid excessive heat exposure post-treatment — standard aftercare that applies to any professional treatment.
For your practice, this matters commercially. Cellstory® doesn't create a seasonal revenue gap. You can offer it in July the same way you offer it in January, maintaining treatment momentum and client consistency throughout the year.
Can Cellstory® be combined with other treatments and injectables?
Combination treatment planning is where Cellstory® often delivers its most exceptional results. Each treatment serves a different role in the client journey. Injectables support structure, contour, and movement. Cellstory® focuses on skin quality — cellular regeneration, collagen and elastin support, texture, tone, clarity, and long-term skin health. Together, they cover what neither achieves alone.
Because Cellstory® is such a controlled and gentle treatment, it can be performed as close as two weeks apart from other modalities where appropriate. This makes it highly flexible around Botox, filler, peels, laser, microneedling, and other advanced procedures — allowing clinics to build smart, results-driven treatment plans without long gaps in the client journey.
The key is correct timing, consultation, and skin assessment. Cellstory® should always be sequenced professionally, with each treatment's role clearly defined. When done right, Cellstory® enhances skin quality and elevates the overall aesthetic result of everything else in your treatment plan.
Why do Cellstory® results last — and keep improving over time?
Most treatments create a surface result. Exfoliation removes dead cells. Hydrating masks plump temporarily. Even some more advanced treatments tighten or stimulate the surface without changing what's happening underneath.
Cellstory® works differently — and the difference is why results don't just hold, they build.
Each Cellstory® session builds on the last — improving the skin's foundation so that texture, pores, pigmentation, laxity, fine lines, and redness are approached from a skin health perspective rather than a quick fix. This is what skin longevity looks like in practice.
